Muchelney Abbey

An Anglo-Saxon monastery founded like Athelney on a small island in the wetlands of the Parrett valley. It developed as a wealthy Benedictine House and the Abbot�s Lodgings, monastic latrine and part of the cloister survive as standing buildings, the rest of the plan is marked out on the ground.

Adjoining church is well worth a visit as is the medieval �Priests House� nearby (restricted opening times tel: 01458 253771).
