Burrow Mump
Burrow Mump, Somerset.

Car park at foot of the hill off the A361, with information panel. The Mump is a steep but short climb, affording great views of the surrounding landscape including a medieval floodbanks (northwards beside the road), medieval canalised course of the River Parrett and Athelney to the south and medieval field pattern on northern side of the River. Remains of unfinished 18th church on the top was used a Royalist strongpoint in the Civil War. The summit was previously occupied by a medieval chapel. Pubs nearby at foot of hill or at East Lyng (Anglo-Saxon burgh beside Athelney).
