Meare Manor & Fish House
Meare Fish House, Meare, Somerset.
Small area of parking beside the entrance to the field in side road at ST4579 4170 or on the road opposite the church (heritage interpretation panels at both places) both off the B3151.
The building was the store and house of the chief fisherman of Glastonbury Abbey with accommodation upstairs and a store downstairs. Entrance free. The field contains earthworks of fish ponds and a vineyard. Meare Pool lay to the north. Entry to the building is by key from the adjoining Meare Manor Farm, originally a residence for the Abbot and a fine 13th century building (not open to the public). The nearby church is also worth a visit (nice door and gargoyles).
