Peat Moors & Shapwick Heath
The Peat Moors Centre, Shapwick Road, Westhay, Somerset (ST426 413). On the east of the road between Shapwick and Westhay. Ample parking. Contains reconstructions of prehistoric trackways, a replica of the Shapwick logboat and reconstructions of Iron Age roundhouses based on the evidence from Glastonbury Lake Village. Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve, Shapwick Road, Westhay. Parking available at the Peat Moors Centre site where a caf� and visitor centre is due to open in spring 2008, or at the eastern end of the reserve at ST 449 396. The reserve has a mixture of reedswamp, wet grassland, wet fen woodland and open water similar to prehistoric environments present in the Brue valley. A stretch of the Sweet Track is preserved in situ underground with the help of an irrigation system. Boardwalks of recycled plastic allow easy access to some areas.
